|
어떤 유명한 사람이나 존경받는 사람이 되고 싶어서 노력하는 사람을 informal하게 부르는 말이다.
If you call someone a wannabe, you are saying in an unkind way that they are trying very hard to be like another person or group of people.
예를 들어 I was a Steven Speilberg wannabe hoping to make great movies someday. (나도 언젠간 멋진 영화만들 것을 희망하면서 스티븐 스필버그 같은 사람이 되고 싶었지.)라고 할 수 있다. 이 문장을 비슷한 표현으로 바꾸자면 I wanted to follow in Steven Speilberg's footsteps. (스티븐 스필버그의 전철을 밟고 싶어했어.), Steven Speilberg is my role model. (스티븐 스필버그는 내가 닮고 싶은 사람이야.)처럼 된다.

W: Really? Why didn't you go to film school?
M: Because I got interested in music and became a Micheal Jackson wannabe instead.
W: 아이였을 때 뭐가 되고 싶었어?

W: 정말이야? 그런데 왜 영화 학교에 다니지 않았니?
M: 왜냐면 음악에 심취하게 됐고, 스티븐 스필버그 대신에 마이클 잭슨 같은 사람이 되고 싶어졌었거든.
