Peter pan (9)

Wendy woke up. She knew Peter at once from her dreams. She sat up in bed, and asked, “Boy, why are you crying? I’m Wendy,” she said. “What’s your name?”
“Peter Pan,” he said.
“It that all?”
Peter didn’t like this, and Wendy saw that she must be careful with him.
“Where do you live?” she asked.
“Second turn to the right, and then straight on till morning.”
Wendy nearly said, “Is that all?” but she stopped in time.
Peter said, “This is my shadow, but I can’t stick it on.”
“Of course not, with soap,” said Wendy. She took out her little box and put her thimble on her finger and sewed Peter’s shadow on to him again. She tried not to hurt him.
Peter did not say “Thank you” to her. He danced about and cried, “Oh, how clever I am!” Wendy was not pleased at this, and went back to bed. But Peter said he was sorry, so she got up again and sat down beside him. She said, “If you like, I will give you a kiss.”

웬디는 잠이 깼습니다. 웬디는 꿈 속에서 본 피터를 금방 알아보았습니다. 웬디는 침대에서 일어나 앉아 물었습니다. “얘, 왜 우니? 나는 웬디야.” 그녀는 말했습니다. “네 이름이 뭐니?”
“피터 팬.”하고 소년이 말했습니다.
“그게 다야?”
피터는 이 말을 좋아하지 않았고, 웬디는 피터에게 조심해야 한다는 것을 알았습니다.
“너는 어디 사니?” 웬디가 물었습니다.
“두 번째에서 오른쪽으로 돈 다음에, 아침까지 계속 곧장 가면 돼.”
웬디는 “그게 다야?”하고 말할 뻔했지만 가까스로 멈추었습니다.
피터는 “이건 내 그림잔데, 이걸 붙일 수가 없어.”하고 말했습니다.
“물론 안되지, 비누로는.” 웬디가 말했습니다. 웬디는 조그만 상자를 꺼내어 손가락에 골무를 끼고 는 피터의 그림자를 그에게 다시 꿰매어주었습니다. 웬디는 그가 아프지 않게 하려고 애쎴습니다.
피터는 웬디에게 “고맙다.”하고 말하지 않았습니다. 그는 춤을 추며 “오, 난 정말 똑똑해!”하고 소리쳤습니다. 웬디는 이것이 기분이 나빠 침대로 되돌아갔습니다. 그러나 피터가 미안하다고 말해서, 다시 일어나 그의 곁에 앉았습니다. 웬디는 “네가 좋다면, 내가 너에게 키스를 줄게.”하고 말했습니다.
