북부의 추운 겨울날씨에서 유쾌한 표현들을 살펴보자. blizzrd는 백년 전만 해도 ‘격렬한 일격, 극단적인 사건’이란 뜻으로 쓰였는데, 어느 해 아이오와 주를 강타한 매서운 눈보라를 한 신문기자가 blizzard라고 이름한 후 ‘폭풍설’이라는 새로운 의미를 갖게 되었다.
