The monkey and the Cat

One day, a Cat and a Monkey sat watching some chestnuts roasting in the fire. "I wish we had some of those chestnuts." said the Monkey. "Let's try to get them. You try, Pussy. Your paws are so much like hands, and I am sure you can get some." This pleased the Cat, so she put her paw into the fire. She got one chestnut out, but the hot coals burned her paw. "That's fine!" said the Monkey. "I knew you could do it. Do you think you could get another?" Poor Puss! She tried again and again. Soon the nuts were all out, but her paw was badly burned. When she turned to eat the nuts, she saw the sly Monkey cracking the last shell.


원숭이와 고양이

어느 날 고양이와 원숭이가 밤이 불에 구워지는 것을 지켜보며 앉아 있었습니다. "우리 저 밤을 좀 먹으면 좋을텐데." 원숭이가 말했습니다. "저걸 꺼내보도록 하자. 네가 해봐, 고양이야. 네 앞발은 손과 아주 비슷해서, 밤을 꺼낼 수 있다고 나는 믿어." 이 말이 고양이를 아주 기쁘게 했으므로, 고양이는 불속에 앞발을 넣었습니다. 고양이는 밤 한 톨을 꺼냈지만, 달구어진 석탄에 발을 데었습니다. "참, 잘했어!" 원숭이가 말했습니다. "나는 네가 할 줄 알았다구. 또 하나 꺼낼 수있겠니?" 불쌍한 고양이! 고양이는 계속 꺼냈습니다. 곧 밤은 모두 꺼냈지만, 고양이의 발은 심하게 데었습니다. 고양이가 밤을 먹으려고 몸을 돌렸을때, 간사한 원숭이가 마지막 껍질을 까고 있는 것을 보았습니다.
