The Fox and the Grapes

One very hot day a thirsty Fox spied some ripe grapes in a garden. He said to himself, "How lucky I am! These ripe grapes will be much nicer, on such a hot day as this, than even the coolest water." Then he crept into the garden, and jumped up at the grapes, but just missed them. Then he tried again and again, every time farther from the grapes than at first. When he found that he could not get at the grapes, he said, "I won't try any more; very likely the grapes are sour!"


여우와 포도

어느 매우 더운 날, 목마른 여우가 정원에 있는 잘 익은 포도를 발견했습니다. 그는 "나는 운도 좋아! 이 잘 익은 포도는 오늘처럼 더운 날엔 가장 시원한 물보다 훨씬 나을걸." 하고 혼잣말을 했습니다. 그리고 그는 정원으로 몰래 들어가, 포도를 향해 껑충 뛰었지만, 조금 못미쳤습니다. 그러자 그는 거듭거듭 시도했는데, 그때마다 포도에서 처음보다 더 멀어졌습니다. 자기가 포도에 닿지 못한다는 것을 깨닫고 그는 말했습니다. "나는 더 이상 애쓰지 않을테야. 저 포도는 분명히 실거야."
