The Boy and the Nuts

A boy once thrust his hand into a pitcher nearly filled with nuts. He grasped as many as his hand could hold; but when he tried to draw out his closed fist, the narrow neck prevented him from doing so.
Unwilling to lose his nuts, yet unable to get them by drawing out his hand, he burst into tears. A person standing by finally gave him this wise and reasonable advice: "Be satisfied to take half as many, my boy, and you will get them easily."


소년과 호도

옛날에 한 소년이 호도로 거의 가득 찬 주전자에 손을 집어 넣었습니다. 그는 손으로 쥘 수 있는 한 많이 거머쥐었습니다. 그러나 그가 움켜진 주먹을 꺼내려 할 때, 주전자의 좁은 목 때문에 그렇게 할 수 없었습니다.
호도를 놓치기도 싫고, 그렇다고 손을 꺼내 그것을 얻을 수도 없고하여, 소년은 울음을 터뜨렸습니다. 곁에 서 있던 사람이 마침내 소년에게 지혜롭고 합리적인 이런 충고를 했습니다. "반 정도 갖는 것으로 만족하렴, 얘야, 그러면 쉽게 얻을 꺼야."
