But Wendy cried, “I know where it is.” She came back with the bottle and put some of the medicine in a glass. Then Michael took his medicine, but Mr. Darling poured his glassful into Nana’s bowl of milk. He told her to drink it. The children watched this without a word.
Mr. Darling knew he was wrong, and that made him angrier and angrier. “I don’t want that dog in the nursery,” he shouted. “I’m going to tie her up in the back garden.”
Then Mrs. Darling told him about the boy, and she took the shadow from the drawer and showed it to him. She said she wanted Nana to stay with the children. But Mr. Darling would not listen to her. He pushed Nana out of the house and tied her to a tree in the garden.
Mr. and Mrs. Darling went out, and the children soon fell asleep. But, outside, Nana barked and barked, because she knew they were in danger.

그러나 웬디가 외쳤습니다. “난 그게 어디 있는지 알아요.” 웬디는 병을 가지고 와서 유리잔에 그 약을 조금 따랐습니다. 그러자 마이클은 자기 약을 먹었는데, 달링 씨는 컵 한 잔분을 나나의 우유 그릇에 부었습니다. 그는 나나에게 그것을 마시라고 했습니다. 아이들은 이것을 한마디 말도 없이 지켜보았습니다.
달링 씨는 자기가 잘못했다는 것을 알았으며, 그것 때문에 더욱더 화가 났습니다. “나는 저 개가 애들 방에 있는 게 싫어.”하고 그는 소리쳤습니다. “저 개를 뒤뜰에 붙들어 맬 거야.”
그러자 달링 부인은 그에게 소년에 대해 얘기하고, 서랍에서 그림자를 꺼내 보여주었습니다. 부인은 나나가 아이들과 함께 있으면 좋겠다고 말했습니다. 그러나 달링 씨는 부인의 말을 들으려고 하지 않았습니다. 그는 나나를 개집에서 밀어내어 정원의 한 나무에 매었습니다.
달링 부부는 외출했고, 아이들은 곧 잠이 들었습니다. 그러나 밖에서는 나나가 계속 짖어댔습니다. 아이들이 위험하다는 것을 알았기 때문입니다.
