To each one she would speak in a different way. To Wilhelm it was with her arms crossed upon her breast. Often for a whole day she would not say one word, and yet in waiting upon Wilhelm she never tired.
One night he came home very weary and sad. Mignon was waiting for him. She carried the light before him upstairs. She set the light down upon the table, and in a little while she asked him if she might dance.
"It might ease your heart a little," she said. Wilhelm, to please her, told her that she might. Then she brought a little carpet, and spread it upon the floor. At each corner she placed a candle, and on the carpet she put a number of eggs. She arranged the eggs in the form of certain figures.

그녀는 사람들에게마다 말하는 방식이 달랐습니다. 빌헬름에게는 가슴에 팔짱을 끼고서 말했습니다. 하루 종일 아무 말도 않으려는 때도 자주 있었지만, 빌헬름을 시중드는 것에는 결코 피곤해하지 않았습니다.
어느 날 밤 그가 아주 지치고 슬픈 표정으로 집에 돌아왔습니다. 미뇽은 그를 기다리고 있었습니다. 아이는 그의 앞에서 불을 들고 2층으로 올라갔습니다. 그 아이는 테이블 위에 불을 내려놓고는 잠시 후 춤을 추어도 좋으냐고 그에게 물었습니다.
“마음을 좀 달래줄 거예요.” 아이가 말했습니다. 빌헬름은 그 아이를 즐겁게 해주려고 추어도 좋다고 말했습니다. 그러자 아이는 작은 카페트를 가지고 와서 바닥에 깔았습니다. 각 모퉁이에는 촛불을 놓고 카페트에는 여러 개의 계란을 놓았습니다. 그 아이는 계란을 어떤 모양이 되도록 배열하였습니다.
