Necktie
A tourist stranded in the desert asked a passing merchant for water. "Sorry," replied the passerby, "I have no water. Only neckties which I am taking to market."

The traveler staggered on through the burning sands and met another native.
"Please, sir! Can you give me some water?"
"I have no water," replied the second man, "Only these ties which I am taking to market."

Half dead, he met a third native, but it was the same story no water, only ties. But to his relief he spotted a hotel in the distance. He crawled into the lobby on his hands and knees and croaked out, "Please, please, give me water!"
"Sorry, sir," said the desk clerk. "We don't allow anyone in without a tie."


넥타이와 물

사막에서 길을 잃은 어느 여행자가 지나가는 상인에게 물을 달라고 청했다. 그 상인은 대답했다. “미안합니다. 물이 없어요. 시장으로 가지고 가는 넥타이밖에 없어요.”

그 여행자는 타는 듯한 사막을 비틀거리며 걸어가다가, 다른 원주민을 만났다.
“선생님, 물 좀 주실 수 있어요?”
“물이 없어요. 시장으로 가지고 가는 이 넥타이 뿐입니다.” 두 번째 사람이 대답했다.


반죽음이 된 그는 세 번째 원주민을 만났지만, 똑같은 이야기였다. 물은 없고 넥타이뿐이었다. 그러나 다행히도 그는 멀리 호텔이 하나 있는 것을 발견했다. 그는 손과 무릎으로 기어서 로비로 들어가, 쉰 목소리로 말했다. “물 좀 주세요!”
“손님, 미안합니다.” 데스크직원이 말했다. “넥타이를 하지 않은 분은 들어오실 수 없습니다.”
