The Time to Take Medicine
An old lady kept asking the bus driver to tell her when they were going to arrived at a certain small town. She asked so often that finally the driver got nervous and passed through the small town before he realized it. He apologized to the other passengers, turned around, and drove back. Then he said to the old lady: "This is the town where you wanted to get out."
"Who wants to get out?" she answered.
The driver said: "You did."
"No," she said, "My daughter told me that when I pass through this town, I should take my pills."


못 말리는 할머니

한 할머니가 버스 운전수를 붙들고 계속해서 차가 어떤 조그만 마을에 닿으면 알려 달라고 했다. 그 할머니가 하도 여러 차례 그렇게 말하자 운전사도 신경이 날카로워졌고, 그래서 미처 깨닫기도 전에 그 조그만 마을을 지나치고 말았다. 운전사는 다른 승객들에게 사과한 뒤, 차를 돌려 왔던 길을 되돌아갔다. 그리곤 그 할머니에게 말했다. “여기가 할머니가 내리신다던 그 마을이에요.”
“누가 내린대?” 할머니가 대답했다.
운전수가 말했다. “할머니가 그러셨잖아요.”
“아니야.” 할머니가 말했다. “내 딸애가 이 마을을 지날 때 약을 먹으라고 했거든.”



  • keep asking: 계속해서 부탁하다.
  • certain: 어떤.
  • get nervous: 신경질이 나다.
  • pass through: 통과하다, 빠져나가다.
  • apologize to: ~에게 사과하다. 전치사 to를 쓰는 데 주의.
  • drive back: 차를 돌려 달리다.
  • get out: (차 따위에서) 내리다.
  • You did.: 여기서 did는 앞에 나온 wanted to get out을 받는 대동사.
  • pill: 알약. 약을 복용한다고 할 때에는 동사 take를 쓴다.
