An All-American end, Kelley's three-year varsity career at Yale lasted from 1934 through 1936. At 84, Kelley is in failing health -- having suffered a stroke in May. His wife, Ruth, also has medical problems. He expressed a desire to leave an inheritance to his six nieces and nephews. "I've been relying on my nieces and nephews," Kelley said. "I wanted to add to my estate and be good to them." While the former Yale football star cherishes the trophy, Kelley saw little use for it in the future.

Yale University participated in the auction, managing to secure seven other Kelley items up for sale -- including jerseys and game balls -- and bidding on the Heisman as well. However, the trophy became too expensive as the auction progressed. "The price wound up too high, especially considering the fact that we already have a great replica," Yale sports archivist Geoffrey Gonder said.
Other famous figures in Yale football history were saddened upon learning of Kelley's sale. "I had hoped it would stay in the family, but it's understandable," longtime Yale football coach Carm Cozza said.

과거에 이루지 못했던 희망을 나타낼 때 즉 "…하기를 희망했으나 그러하지 못했다" 라는 표현을 할 때 "had hoped + S + would + 동사의 원형" 문형을 이용한다.

A. 한국식 전세금은 북미에서 없는 개념입니다. 아파트나 단독주택을 세 얻을 때는 한국처럼 많은 전세금을 지불하지 않고 보통 월세(monthly payment)를 냅니다 "How much is the rent?"(세가 얼마냐) 라고 물을 땐 월세를 묻는 것이고 '셋집'은 'a rented house'(apartment, town house 등)으로 표현합니다. "단독주택 셋집에서 산다" 는 "I live in a rented single house" , "침실이 2개인 아파트에 산다"는 "I live in a two-bedroom apartment", (침실이 따로 구분 없는)방 하나 빌려 생활하면 "I live in a studio" 로, 그리고 한 세대는 'one household'로 표현하면 되겠습니다. 전세금은 'deposit' 정도로 표현하면 되겠죠. 예를 들어 "한국에서는 아파트를 세 얻을 때 전세금을 지불해야 한다"는 "In Korea, we have to deposit money to the landlord when we rent an apartment" 로 표현하면 무난합니다.
