In a dramatic, tear-stained interview, Oprah Winfrey revealed for the first time why she'll never have children: The tragic death of the 2-week-old baby she delivered at age 14 sent her a message that motherhood was not her destiny.

"I took it as a great opportunity -- not as a loss, but as an opportunity," Oprah confided. "This means that you're supposed to go on and do other things with your life, and you're not going to be a mother."

Had the baby survived, Oprah says, her life would have been drastically different. Emotional Oprah can't hold back the tears during her soul-baring interview. "I don't know what kind of mother I would have been," the talk show queen confessed in a "Biography" special on the A&E network. "I do certainly know that my life would have taken a different course. All the things that then later helped propel me into this great career probably would not have happened."

During the stunningly candid interview, Oprah also dropped an unexpected bombshell -- her infant son lived for two weeks before dying from complications of his premature birth.

She also discussed in graphic detail being raped at age 9 by an older cousin. "Afterward he took me for an ice cream cone and told me not to tell anyone. I was shaking, trembling and crying," Oprah recalled. After the rape, Oprah was abused by relatives until she was 14, leaving her promiscuous and rebellious.

Unable to control her, Oprah's mother shipped her off to Nashville to live with her father. But Oprah was secretly pregnant -- and she knew her father would be furious. "My father had said, 'I would rather see a daughter of mine floating down the Cumberland River than bring shame to this family,'" Oprah said. The truth finally came out when Oprah was seven months pregnant. "The hardest thing I've ever had to do was to go home to my father -- very proud, honorable man -- and say, 'I'm pregnant,'" a teary-eyed Oprah revealed.

The trauma of telling Vernon sent Oprah into premature labor. In every new mother's nightmare, Oprah stood by helplessly while her infant son battled for his life. Tragically, her child's life was snuffed out after only two weeks.

But from his death Oprah was reborn. No longer faced with the prospect of being an unwed teenaged mother, she plunged into her schoolwork -- and the rest is history. "The baby's death devastated Oprah," said a source. "But she promised God and her dead baby she would make good come from the tragedy."
