부정대명사 all, both, each
all, both, each 등 부정대명사의 용법에 주의하자

1. all

(X) His all money was spent on the races.
(O) All his money was spent on the races.
(O) All of his money was spent on the races.
(그는 경마에 돈을 다 써버렸다.)

all his money의 all과 his money는 동격이다. all of his money라고도 한다. all이 위와 같이 불가산명사 앞에 올 때는 단수 동사를 취하지만 가산명사 앞에 올 때는 복수 동사를 취한다. 예를 들어, All of his sisters are married. (그의 누나들은 모두 결혼했다.)와 같이 가산명사의 복수형 앞에 올 때는 복수 동사를 받는다.

2. both

(O) I've met both of his parents.
(O) I've met both of them.
(O) I've met them both.
(X) I've met both them.
(나는 그의 부모님을 두분 다 뵈었다.)

목적어가 일반 명사일 경우, I've met his parents both.라고는 하지 않는다. both를 all로 바꿔 써도 마찬가지다.

3. each

(O) Each of his brothers was given a prize.
(O) Each of them was given a prize.
(X) Each them was given a prize.
(그의 형들은 각각 상을 받았다.)

문법적으로는 단수동사 was를 쓰는 게 맞지만 구어에서는 복수동사 were를 쓰기도 한다. 또한 His each brother나 Each his brother이라고는 하지 않는다.

1. Since I couldn't decide which of the two hats would suit me better, I got ______.(두 모자 중 어느 게 더 잘 어울리는지 정할 수 없어서 둘 다 샀다.)

(A) both them

(C) all of them
(D) two of them

정답 (B).
(A)를 both of them라고 고치면 맞는다. (C)의 all of them은 세 개 이상일 때 쓴다.

2. We've sent a notice to ______ of our members concerning our new schedule.
(우리는 새 일정과 관련해 각 회원들에게 통지문을 발송했다.)

(A) the all
(B) the each
(C) every
(D) each

정답은 (D).
(C)의 every는 대명사가 아니라 형용사이기 때문에 뒤에 of가 올 때는 쓸 수 없다.

3. ______ the women on the beach were wearing sunglasses.
(해변에 있는 여자들 모두 선글라스를 쓰고 있었다.)

(A) Every
(B) Each
(C) All
(D) Most

정답은 (C).
(D)의 경우 Most of라고 쓰면 맞는다.
