race against time은 deadline에 맞춰서 일을 할 때 마치 시계와 경쟁하듯이 일한다는 의미에서 유래된 표현. 주어진 시간 안에 끝내야 하는 시합 같은 것을 얘기할 때 쓴다.
유사한 표현으로 We have to beat the clock on this. (우린 시계랑 시합해서 이겨야 해. -> 우린 꼭 시간 안에 끝내야 해.), We are operating under a deadline. (우린 마감 시간안에 해내야 해.), We don't have much time to complete this. (이걸 끝낼 충분한 시간이 없어.)등이 있다.
